We took a forty-five minute bus ride to beautiful Antigua. It is one of the oldest cities and was the country’s capital until 1773 when an earthquake demolished it. It now has beautiful colonial buildings set against three volcanoes. We walked the city; visited a coffee plantation; saw a day of the cross celebration and even experienced an earthquake. (We were not at the 5.9 epicenter.) Please visit "Photo Albums" at www.guatemala2009.com to enjoy some of the sites we saw on our day off in Antigua.
