An Update
We are presently in Guatemala City and we are well. In case you're keeping score at home, here's how we got to this point:
We left the hospital on Thursday, May 27 just after post clinic day. We had a nice dinner hosted by the Rotary Club of Guatemala City and received a whole bunch of of gratitude, and appreciation for this very successful mission where we were able to change the lives of 108 very poor and underprivileged children. We were supposed to leave Retalhuleu at 4am, travel 4 plus hours by bus to Guatemala City airport, and of course if you have been watching the news, this all changed for us. Due to the immense amount of ash from the volcano that was spread all over the city and the airport, the airport was closed and remains closed until all the ash is cleaned up. Just to understand, this is not a light, airy ash like that of cigar, it's a dark black heavy sand with the consistency of beach sand. And just like when you track it in from the beach, it's in everything. It seems jet engines don't like to have this stuff flowing through their turbines. No, the airport is still not cleaned up and no we will not be flying out of Guatemala.
Yesterday, we had a nice rainy trip to Antigua and a wonderful evening hosted by Carlos and Elisa. After much work on the part of our mission director Rosalie Wells, we are now booked on a flight out of San Salvador on Wednesday and should be home sometime Wednesday evening.
Oh, and I almost forgot "Bruce don't forget to take you meds"
