Day 12 and 13 The Mission to Cumana, Venezula ends.

Up at 3:30 AM, on the bus to the airport for our C-130 Hercules Military aircraft to return us to Caracas airport and our flight home,  Well almost the plane had mechanical problems and did not arrive.  So we all took a commercial flight to Caracas, but it did not arrive in time for our connection to Houston.  After a lot of discussion we all decide to stay over a day and catch the same arrangements the next day.  If you have ever missed a flight you know what that does to your down line connections.  Nearly everyone had a mess and long lay overs. But the relaxing day and evening at an airport motel made the next days flight a lot more agreeable.

Everyone has made it home now and we all basking in the accomplishments that we were a part of in Cumana.  We evaluated 237 patients at the first day clinic, of that total 114 ultimately had a surgery and several multiple procedures accounting for 140 total procedures.

Day 10- Our Last day of surgeries

Day 10

Yesterday as I was roaming the wards of the hospital where our patients were waiting or recovering, I came upon a 10 year old girl with, what appeared to be, facial burns over maybe 80% of her face and a smaller area on her arm. Rotaplast has been coming here for 11 years and  plans to continue to return.  So the possibility for future surgery is good.

    

Day 1 Travel Caracas to Cumana, Venezuela

The Rotaplast Mission to Cumana, Venezuela arrived after a short flight in an National Guard plane supplied  by the Venezuelan government.  The 30 volunteers, their luggage and supplies all were placed in the Hercules aircraft. Tomorrow we will have the Clinic Day and register and evaluate 240 potential patients and will select approximately 100 for surgery during the next seven days.  The Team consists of 20 medical professional and 10 non medical volunteers mostly Rotarians from around the world. Our goal is to operate on as many kids as possible and hopefully change their lives forever.
